– Bloggy A
Hey people. So in this blog, we would be going through-
- The concept of New Year Resolution and Why to take them.
- How to take New Year Resolution.
- Surprise
Also, in this blog we will be going practical. I won’t just tell how to take resolutions but will also try to elaborate by giving 5 examples, each step.
- The concept of New Year Resolution and Why to take them.
Well, if we search on the web, something like this appears-

A New Year’s resolution is a tradition, most common in the Western Hemisphere but also found in the Eastern Hemisphere, in which a person resolves to continue good practices, change an undesired trait or behavior, accomplish a personal goal, or otherwise improve their life at the start of a new year.
Now my take on it-
Of course, nothing changes with a change in a year. We remain the same, situations remain the same and so with the people, thoughts, matters, things, etc. But some things are totally in our control. And if we do not be a good pilot, trying different places, we are actually wasting the fuel by revolving round the same area. What if things won’t change and can’t be changed, our ways can be. To me, a resolution is not simply taking a task. I do not believe in begging to improve my situations, I rather believe in improving myself to improve my situations. It would sound absurd or silly, but almost 55% of solutions to our problems lies with us. But rarely do we have the time and the courage to look within. We search for peace and solutions in the outer world, but does the human know he himself is the biggest solution and the only one applicable to each and every problem. Our thoughts, our habits and our ways play a much vital role in our lives than we think they do. A resolution is anything but improvement of yourself, for yourself, by yourself. (Can’t be good and remembered as much as Sir Lincoln’s legendary definition of democracy, of course)
As I am an Indian and have been brought up in an Indian society, for us a new year is not as special and grand as the Festival of Lights, as, as far as I know the festival of Deepawali marks the start of a new year in Hinduism. All we do here is wear new clothes, buy new vehicles, and wish everyone by typing a big new year message on WhatsApp. Yeah, at least me and my family does that. Rarely do we celebrate it in a grand way. My lengthy new year message is like this- “Happy New Year😊” for family and teachers and “Happy New Year❤️” for friends). So long that people get eye strain after reading it.
But in western countries, a new year is a big deal. Some people take new year to be a fresh start. I pretty much like that concept. Although we can never really be a new born again, filled with joy ,unaware of sadness. But we can surely try to give up on bad deeds, vow to make good ones more, work on ourselves, talk less do more and beware of our misdeeds and mistakes and learn from them. And what can be better time than New Year to do that for yourself. So basically, New Year Resolution is all about updating, changing, improving oneself for one’s good.
- HOW TO TAKE NEW YEAR RESOLUTION?
STEP 1. The Analysis
The first step towards taking new year’s resolution is definitely analysis. Now what we need to do in this step is figure out what we need to take out, what to add, what to work on, what to continue doing, what to improve on, what to do more often, what to do less often, what to have control on, what to not control, what to change, what to alter and lastly, what to update. Now when we have got the questions, how to get the answers for them? There are certainly 2 ways. Self analysis or analysis with the help of a partner or two. I would highly recommend to do self analysis because as I always say and firmly believe, no one can be 100% honest with you, except you yourself. And even if it’s not about being honest or not, each and every person on this planet has got things and a side which is hidden from the outer world and are only known to our mind, heart and soul. Let’s understand this with a simpler and more relatable sentence. There might be certain things we can tell our parents but would not like to share with our friends. And there also exist certain things we can share with our friends but would not like our parents to know about. If you are a teenager or a kid, it’s relatable now, and if you’re an adult, anyways it was relatable to you too once. Basically, all I want to say is, it is possible that different group of people know different You. But the only being who is completely aware of what actually you are, and what are you now, is only You. Now how do we do Self analysis. The first way I would suggest is something I do and do all the time- Talk to Yourself. When we talk to ourselves, there are no personal bias, no one to judge, the listener and the talker are both very understanding people and would always want good to happen to you, we get the expert advice (hihihi). As it is said, the legal case is best fought when it’s important evidences are all studied well. I’ve also quite experienced some people talking to themselves by drawing charts, flowcharts, pros and cons, tables, circling and underlining things, etc.I think it’s a great way. So if talking to yourself verbally is not really your thing, then you can try to sit with a pen and a paper and jot down all those answers to those questions and figure out what to work on and how you need to work on things.
Now however, I prefer self analysis, as I am a blogger, I think I need to write stuff for a wider group of public of different kinds. So for those who do not really trust with self analysis, analysis with a partner or two can also be done. In this, you will need a partner you trust and have full confidence on. They should be the people who have known you quite long and understand you. They must be aware of you fully and should be really close to you. Mind that people you THINK are close to you, won’t actually be of help here. Note that they are honest with you or not. And you are ready to go after these checks. Now tell them to tell you the answers of those questions on the basis of what they know about you.
I would also like to mention something here. If you are a self analyst, it does not mean you cannot take help of a partner. See if I be honest, there are some people who think they are just so enough for themselves and die in over confidence and pride. We don’t want that right? It’s okay to ask for help sometimes. I know I am a good and honest self analyst, but I also don’t hesitate to ask my mom or my brother to tell me if I have been wrong at something. It is possible that what we think is an asset we possess, might be an irritating limitation for others. So it’s no harm to ask a couple of close people if they think you can improve somewhere.
Also, I know some people who do not need words to hear to think. They think by thinking. In most of the cases, these are those silent and introverted people who without talking to themselves or even talking to others, figure out everything. So for those people there is no such procedure I can tell. You have your thoughts, are done by your thinking part, and are now good to go.
Now work on this first step. To help you, let’s have a few examples of resolutions for the step 1 :-
-Robert’s resolutions
- I will add more veggies in my diet. (What to add)
- I will continue to read regularly, half an hour before sleeping. (What to continue doing)
- I would do Yoga more often. (What to start doing more often)
- I would have control on my habit of sleeping late. (What to have control on)
- I will change myself and will try to respond and not react. (What to change)
STEP 2. The Ways
Okay, so now when we are done with the analysis, we need to find out how actually are we going to do this. So let’s figure out and discuss the ways. It definitely varies from person to person, how they find the ways by which they can achieve the result they want and make the best out of their resolutions. Let’s better understand through the examples we talked about-
- I will add more veggies in my diet. (What to add)- to do this maybe Robert would like to tell his maid to cook more veggies and restrict him from eating junk by cooking less and less junk. Or Robert would contact a dietician and ask for a good healthy diet. Or he would simply bring more and more veggies from the market and lesser the amount of packaged food and canned drinks. Seems like he got a competition at his work, and so is turning health conscious.
- I will continue to read regularly, half an hour before sleeping. (What to continue doing) – to accomplish this Robert might like to set a reminder as “read book” because he knows the one thing he checks constantly and is connected with, is his phone. And as he needs to continue this habit, he would not have much trouble with it. And of course, when one is reading Harry Potter, one can hardly forget to read.
- I would do Yoga more often. (What to start doing more often) although Robert does Yoga exercises once in a blue moon, he decides he needs to be regular with it to see the best results and also to keep himself calm and enthusiastic for the whole day long. Maybe he would like to join some good Yoga classes, on Zoom. Or if he has strong determination, maybe he himself would wake up early and do yoga by himself.
- I would have control on my habit of sleeping late. (What to have control on). Robert has realised it’s not really good for his health to sleep late as he is not able to give himself a sound sleep of 6 hours. Now he decides he won’t check his phone half an hour before sleeping after all, as it has been proven by science, it doesn’t let us have a good sleep. He also decides he would have a hot bath before going to bed and would make some coffee for himself at night. All in order to have a better sleep.
- I will change myself and will try to respond and not react. (What to change) Robert also realised what it is like to respond and not react and how useful and easy thing this is to do. He realised practising this one trick in daily life would help him so much to remain sorted and contented. He got this idea after reading Bloggy A’s blog on Responding and not Reacting. He has firmly decided whenever a person or a situation isn’t according to him, he would act clever and won’t waste his time arguing with the other person about it. He would listen respectfully, smile and move on.
STEP 3. The Execution
Now when we have completely figured it out what we need to do and how we need to do, it’s the time for some good execution. An important part of execution is: Will power. So many people ask me how to improve your will power. Well I won’t say I have done a phd in Will Power because I too sometimes feel demotivated and have no energy or enthusiasm to work. But what I have learnt till now is that if you really need a strong will power to do something, you have to turn selfish sometimes. You have to start thinking about yourself and only about yourself. You need to respect yourself, love yourself and above all believe in yourself. I know these mere words would not instantly do a magic and whhooshh!!!!!! You are filled with determination. No that’s not gonna happen. I can just say, you need to work for yourself and uplift yourself. Play some nice inspiring music and feel empowered or whatever works for you; do it. A great song I would recommend is “The Champion” not the Bravo one, it’s sung by “Carrie Underwood”. If you have already listened to it, great. It’s an amazing song filled with joy and power and gives you a boost of energy and also confidence.
